HOY CHORALE PALM SUNDAY / DIA DE RAMS

Palm Sunday / Dia de Rams is the first single from Hoy Chorale, the newest project of South London multi-instrumentalist Oscar G. Guardans. You may recognise him from Family Time or perhaps his work with Naima Bock, and those who have seen him play live can attest to Guardans’ considered, poetic approach to his discipline. Dramatic and sophisticated, tension builds as Guardans tells a story of distance between mother and son on a sweaty palmed Palm Sunday. Accompanied by the accomplished and impressive Rosemary Moss and Tom Hardwick-Allen on cello and trombone respectively, this lush operatic piece heralds the debut of an exciting new act. Guardans closes the piece in Catalan, his mother tongue, decrying detachment between mothers and sons singing “Agafa’m la ma, mare / Que la tinc al fons de la butxaca / I no la sé trobar”. -Adam Brown
